Coffee gin and tonics are gaining in popularity with lovers of both poisons ... and you’ll soon see why! The sophisticated bitterness of this delicious concoction brings out the complex notes of both gin and coffee.

If this blend of flavours sounds unusual to you, you’re not alone. But where other coffee gin and tonics fail, 1 ou 2 Cocktail’s 100 per cent Québécois version is a hit, highlighting the notes of Saga gin, balanced with the freshness of cucumber and Scrappy’s celery bitters. For best results, opt for a more acidic, third-wave bean; Québec-based Escape roasters offer a perfect option.

STEPS

  • Use a muddler or pestle to crush the five cucumber slices. You can do this directly in your shaker.
  • Add all the other ingredients except for the tonic water.
  • Add ice cubes, then shake vigorously.
  • Double filter using a fine strainer into a glass filled with ice cubes.
  • Dilute with tonic water to taste and stir.
  • Garnish with a slice of cucumber.
