Lisa LeBlanc Unplugged

Rooted in Rhythm and the Forest

Lisa LeBlanc, one of the most captivating voices on the Francophone music scene, has long blurred the lines between folk, country, and rock. Blending eclectic sounds with layered influences, she has firmly established herself as a singular artist. Lately, her creative path has led her into more introspective territory—and it’s in the forest that she finds the time and space to slow down and fully immerse herself in the act of creation.

At BESIDE Habitat, Lisa stepped away from the usual hustle to spend time with her two bandmates in a cabin surrounded by trees. While her time at the cabin was meant for rehearsing and composing, the stillness of the forest offered something more: a balm for the soul, and a space for deeper connection.

When the Roots Run Deep

Raised in a world where trees outnumber people, Lisa LeBlanc describes her relationship with the forest as intrinsically deep. “I grew up in the woods. Nature will always be a part of me,” she explains. For her, nature is a constant source of wellness and grounding—a place to recharge, draw strength, and reconnect with her truest self.

Lisa first stepped into the world of music at age 12, the moment she set foot on a stage. That instant sealed her fate: music would be her life, and her career would be in a constant state of reinvention. Rooted at first in folk and rock, her musical universe has since evolved to embrace more eclectic genres like funk and disco, all while staying true to her Acadian roots. “My latest album was funk and disco, mostly written in Chiac (my Acadian accent), and my earlier albums were more rootsy, folk, and rock,” Lisa shares.

Equally fluent in French and English, Lisa weaves between the two languages with ease. English lets her loosen the rules; French invites introspection. This duality is more than just linguistic—it’s at the core of her creative expression.

A Distinctive Sonic Mark

What makes Lisa LeBlanc’s music instantly recognizable is her unmistakable voice—both literal and lyrical, no matter the musical style. Her lyrical approach—layered with humour, irony, and reflections on daily life—offers listeners something that feels both light and deeply human. These words, punctuated by silences and syncopated rhythms, give her music a flow that’s unmistakably her own. “A lot of my lyrics are born from everyday conversations or mundane scenes I observe. I’ve always loved using humour in songs to better express what I’m feeling,” she says.

Her songwriting is spontaneous, and she thrives in collaboration. Collaboration is also key. “I love working in groups when it comes to music because it pushes me out of my usual patterns and takes the pressure off when I’m doing it with friends!” she adds.

Duality as a Source of Balance

For Lisa LeBlanc, city life and the natural world represent two complementary realms. While the city brings speed, spark and stage lights, nature is where she regains her bearings and breathes deeply. It’s the duality and the perpetual movement between the two that fuels her creativity—a rhythm of expansion and return.

Music, for Lisa, is an ongoing voyage. Each note, each pause, each encounter holds essential creative value. And while this forest retreat allowed her to bring some projects to life, it also cracked open space for quieter, more grounded work, rooted in the calm pull of the trees.

Recent Cultural Touchstones
