In an era where everything must be done as quickly as possible, Catherine Blanchet goes against the tide. Each piece is the result of an in-depth study, the contemplation of a stone extracted from its environment and its representation on paper.  Through drawing, she connects with herself and her surroundings.

"When I draw, I feel present. The rocks, by their permanent nature, connect us to the earth and bring us back to our own existence," she concludes.

The artist recently spent a weekend at BESIDE Habitat with her partner and their two children. She took the opportunity to collect some stones, indulge in photography, and appreciate the September sun.

The stay was brief, but their little gang made the most of it.

“We went on a hike with a picnic that we ate on the sunny dock of Lake Charlevoix, with our feet in the water, regretting not bringing our swimsuits.”

After an afternoon of exploration, they cooked together before making a fire outside as night fell.

For Catherine Blanchet, this stay deepened her already strong connection with nature. She admits to being dazzled by the chalet’s architecture and the large bay windows offering an immersive experience with the landscape. And who knows, maybe this brief time spent in the forest will inspire her for future projects...
