Based in Montreal and raised in Lévis, singer-songwriter Vincent Roberge, a.k.a., Les Louanges, is known for his melodic blend of genres and spot-on lyrics. In January 2022, he released the album Crash, which won the award for Best Francophone Album at the 2023 JUNO Awards.
His music, though not strictly defined, oscillates between pop, alternative R&B, jazz and rap. Exploration emanates from his music as he strives to remain sonically and stylistically flexible. Vincent describes himself as a music worker, dedicating each day to writing verses and choruses that will resonate with people, without confining himself to any particular mold.
Vincent was born the same year Microsoft launched Windows 95. As part of the last cohort of millennials, his life has always revolved around technology and its rise —his laptop and phone rarely leaving his side. "I quit smoking a little over a year ago, and I aspire to cut down on screen time, but Silicon Valley seems to have an even stronger grip than nicotine," he admits.
Vincent describes his relationship with nature as that of a city dweller: highly romanticized and always somewhat mystical.
“We're constantly looking for meaning in our lives today, but nature doesn't ask any questions. It evokes purity, simplicity and peace.’’
Nature calls to him, and he intends to answer within the next ten years. As time passes, the woods have become a focal point—an increasingly important goal.
BESIDE Habitat was a small step in that direction; a break in his busy daily life, bringing him back, if only for a few nights, to the tranquility that nature, despite itself, imposes.
"The silence, the smell of wood, the minimalist furniture, the sauna, the natural light, the feel of the floor underfoot, and ultimately, the care given to even the smallest details of the space make it one of the most peaceful places I’ve ever stayed," Vincent concludes.
With hope that this escape to the woods will have contributed, in some way, to his third album.
